② Washing in tap water

After the brain has been fixed in formalin, it is essential to rinse off any fixative solution adhered to the tissue.

• Method：Place the brain in a washtub and rinse with weakly flowing tap water.
• Timeframe：There is no strict timeframe for rinsing; however, in the Laboratory of Neuropathology, a whole brain is rinsed for approximately 1 hour.

Method

Carry the brain in a small, air-tight container.
Rinse the brain in a sink with a push-pull ventilation system to vent formalin fumes.
Cover the brain with a paper towel to prevent it from drying out.
