Axonal dystrophy indicates diseases in which dystrophic changes are made to axons and is one specific type of axonal swelling (spheroids) characteristic to the distal axon terminal. This is also referred to as neuroaxonal dystrophy, or it may be given a disease-specific name such as infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy.
