ガリアス染色は多系統萎縮症のグリア細胞質内封入体（glial cytoplasmic inclusion、　GCI）を検出します。GCIはリン酸化αシヌクレインの凝集体です。しかし、同じリン酸化αシヌクレインの凝集体であるレビー小体やレビーニューライトの検出は得意としていません。なぜ同じαシヌクレインの凝集体なのに一方は染色されてもう一方は染色されないのか、その理由は明らかになっていません。銀イオンが４リピートタウとGCIsのどのような構造を好んで結合するのか興味深いです。

Gallyas method detects glial cytoplasmic inclusions (GCIs) of multiple sclerosis (MSA) which mainly composed of phosphorylated α synuclein. However, it doesn’t work on detecting Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites even though their main component is the same as GCIs. We don’t know why Gallyas method detects the one but the other. I am curious to know what kind of structure silver ions prefer to attach to 4 repeat tau and GCIs.
